Pet Walk 2010: Team Inu Inu

We had so much fun at this years Pet Walk 2010. An awesome fundraiser that helps raise money for the Hawaii Humane Society. This year the Pet Walk raised over $160,000!

due to the economic slump, the Hawaii Humane Society has seen a large increase of owners surrendering their animals. Lets help get these animals life long homes! A great place to keep updated on animal adoptions visit: Hawaii Humane Society's website and (my personal favorite) Wag and Snap's weekly visits at HHS.

Here are pictures of my family (troopers) enjoying ourself at this years Pet Walk as
Team Inu Inu!! Even Sachie from 3 Dogs and a Girl came to join us in the festivities..

Inu Inu Bon Dance now available!!

Our cute Bon Dance collection is now available online! Get yours today!!

our Bon Dance collection pays homage to two japanese folklores we grew up with: Kaguya Hime (bamboo princess) & Kinatro (golden boy). Every late summer numerous of bon dances are held to pay respect/honor to our departed (decease) ancestors. This tradition has been celebrated in Japan for more than 500 years and traditionally includes a dance, known as Bon-Odori.

..Martha Stewart Pets..

the famous Martha Stewart has paired up with Pet Smart to exclusively offer pet essentials and accessories. But of course miss Martha doesn't stop there... along with her specifically designed beds, feeders, leashes, collars, toys, carriers, yada yada yada.. she gives pet advice, how to's, projects, and recipes... seriously what can't this woman do?

for those martha/dog lovers here is a doggie biscuit recipe:

Ingredients
(Makes about 5 dozen)
1 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 cup wheat germ
1/4 cup brewer's yeast
1 teaspoon salt
1-1/2 tablespoons canola oil
1/2 cup low-sodium canned chicken stock, plus more for brushing

Directions
1. Preheat oven to 400°F. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, wheat germ, yeast, and salt; set aside.
2. Pour oil into a large bowl. Add stock and flour mixture in three alternating batches, beginning and ending with stock. Mix well.
3. On a lightly floured surface, roll out dough to about 3/8-inch thick. Shape biscuits using a dog-bone-shaped cookie cutter appropriate for your dog's size.
4. If desired, you can spell out your dog's name in the dough with a wet toothpick.
5. Transfer to parchment-lined baking sheets. Bake 10 minutes. Brush with stock; rotate baking sheets and bake 10 minutes more. Turn off oven. Let dog biscuits stand in oven to dry completely, about 1-1/2 hours. Store in an airtight container at room temperature.

they even sell cute bone cookie cutters for that special lil furry friend... ($7.99)

you can check out all of these neat products out at any Pet Smart location.. or if you "lucky you live hawaii" you can visit: Martha Stewart Pets website

..pet blogging..

its so exciting to see more and more people blogging about pets!!

my new fave:

Wag and Snap is a local hawaii based pet photographer(Steve Czerniak). He blogs about modern pet photography, adventures with his two little terriers, sneak peak photos of his client's pets, and helping out at our local Humane Society.

What really drew me in to the Wag and Snap blog was their recent post helping out the Hawaii Humane Society with pet adoptions. Once a week, Steve will be going to the Humane Society to photograph their newest members up for adoption.

here are some of the pooches he posted on August 6th:

(pictures from wag n snap blog site)

I think this is such a great idea because with these pictures we are able to see these animals as living beings and not as unwanted creatures. I definitely will be checking back in on this project to see if I ever come across of a new fury friend that I may be able to open up my apartment to.

hooray for the underdog!

After spending months of hiding in a cave sewing custom order after custom order, i am finally able to come back to civilization. whew.. any hoo.. I was at the kailua post office a few days back (sending out a custom order) when I came upon they amazing greeting cards called: Hooray for the Underdog!

Hooray for the Underdog's greeting cards consists of black & white and colored studio portraits of rescued dogs. These dog/pet portraits are not only humorous with their catchy card phrases, but can also grip your heart with the raw truth of unwanted pets. hence the underdog!! Yes these are adorable pictures, some funny, so cute, but what makes these cards so special is the honestly that lies on the back of each card.

on the back of each HFTU card list 3 things:
1. Underdog
2. Profile
3. Special Power

I can only show you what I mean:

on the back reads:

Underdog: Paden
Profile: Facility at capacity. Pulled by a volunteer shelter walker.
Special Power: extremely tolerant, especially when it comes to dressing up for a local production of the Nutcraker.

heres another one:

on the back reads:

Underdog: Rootie Tootie
Profile: Born completely deaf. Saved from a breeder who wanted to destroy him.
Special Power: Defying gravity. In fact, his tree climbing skills are legendary.

Funny thing is, I actually bought a underdog card a few months ago when I was up in NYC at cute doggie boutique called zoomies. I didn't really realize what I did until I searched for it to compare to the ones I picked up at the post office. I was clearly drawn to this amazing idea. Lets support and celebrate all the underdogs out there!

Shop:
I am assuming you can find Hooray for the Underdog greeting cards at any post office (since I found all of mines at one, specifically the Kailua branch) OR you can shop online at their website: www.hoorayfortheunderdog.com Check out their big selection, read their awesome story and how all of this came to be...
